WASHINGTON: After a fierce manhunt, the gunman who shot and killed conservative activist Charlie Kirk and close confidant of US President Donald Trump has been arrested and taken to prison, according to a tweet by US President Donald Trump.
According to John Miller, CNN’s chief law enforcement and intelligence analyst, the shooter’s planning, skill and execution could complicate the hunt.
He told CNN’s Kaitlan Collins that gunmen are closely studied by the government and are typically “methodical and patient and self-reliant.”
“These are the types of people who operate quietly, try to hide from view, carry out their missions, take their guns with them and leave little evidence behind, which is why I think they’re having such a hard time getting started on this.”
Officials said this morning that they believe the gunman fired one shot at one person and that it was a targeted shooting incident. Miller said the single shooting shows that “the person is not new to shooting,” which could ultimately help officers get to another part of the investigation.
“This is someone who knows exactly what they’re doing and may know others and may be acting in the best interests of law enforcement,” Miller said. “As someone with a long history of shooting, this is not a volunteer.”
